The magic is in you.

“Books have a mysterious and magical power, they will remain close to your heart, stand by your side, and always cheer you up. Nothing would make me happier than if visitors could stumble upon their own magic at the Kiki’s Museum of Literature and bring it back home with them.”

Koriko Town

Step into the enchanting world inspired by Koriko Town from ‘Kiki’s Delivery Service,’ and let it transport you into the magical realms of literature.

Library

Inside the museum, you will find house-shaped bookshelves. Within those, books are arranged in a seemingly random fashion with the hope of promoting children’s natural curiosity, so that they can discover books freely and at their own pace.

jiji’s Theater

Walking down a narrow hallway will take you to a multi-screen video theater that feels like a hideaway. Welcome to Jiji’s Theater! Here popular characters such as ”Ghost Atchi” and ”Ringo-chan” will accompany you in an interactive program. Experience!

Eiko-san’s Atelier

The museum features a faithful reproduction of Eiko Kadono’s workshop. There, laid out on her desk, handwritten manuscripts cohabit with her stationaries and painting supplies, while the surrounding shelves are filled with her favorite books and small items collected during her travels.

Cafe

In Café kiki you can enjoy unique dishes, some of which straight out of Eiko-san’s stories, all while gazing at the panoramic view of Nagisa Park and the Kyu-Edogawa river.

Shop

Discover the many goods on offer at our shop. There is a variety of captivating character merchandise and collectibles straight out of Eiko-san’s novels, along with original strawberry-colored goods, carefully selected items, and even a replica of Eiko-san’s own ”atelier coat”.

About

The Kiki’s Museum of Literature has a twofold mission: to introduce Eiko Kadono’s works to a wide audience, and to offer a space for children to engage with literature and cultivate their imaginations. Designed by Kengo Kuma, the museum is situated on the hill of Nagisa Park along the Kyu-Edogawa River. While the exterior of the building shines in a glistening white, surprising spaces hide inside of it.
Upon entering, visitors encounter the enchanting Koriko Town, the strawberry-colored setting of “Kiki’s Delivery Service” brought to life through projection mapping, and the immersive Jiji’s Theater. The library, enclosed by house-shaped bookshelves, is a haven for young readers. The museum showcases a diverse selection of children books and picture books from around the world, alongside the work of Eiko Kadono and various authors, creating a rich and inclusive literary experience. The deliberate absence of strict categorization aims to foster children’s autonomy, allowing them to freely select books and enjoy reading in their preferred corners of the library. The Kiki’s Museum of Literature stands as a vibrant and imaginative space, inspiring children to delve into the world of books and nurture a genuine love for reading.
